چکیده

Abstract. Mitigation of carbonaceous aerosol emissions is expected to provide climate and health co-benefits. The accurate representation aerosols in models critical for reducing uncertainties their feedback. In this regard, emission fluxes life cycle processes are the two primary sources uncertainties. Here, we demonstrate that incorporation a dynamic ageing scheme estimates updated local improves over Indian monsoon region regional model, RegCM, compared with its default configuration. respective mean black carbon (BC) organic (OC) surface concentrations 2010 estimated be 4.25 10.35 µg m−3 Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP) augmented model. BC column burden polluted IGP found 2.47 mg m−2, 69.95 % higher than model configuration much closer available observations. anthropogenic optical depth (AOD) increases by more 19 due enhancement, also leading better agreement observed AOD. top-of-the-atmosphere, surface, atmospheric short-wave radiative forcing at −0.3, −9.3, 9.0 W m−2 −0.89, −5.33, 4.44 Peninsular India (PI). Our results suggest combined effect modifications leads maximum improvements performance regions where play dominant role.

Impact of absorbing aerosols on the simulation of climate over the Indian region in an atmospheric general circulation model

The impact of anthropogenic absorbing aerosols (such as soot) on the climate over the Indian region has been studied using the NCMRWF general circulation model. The absorbing aerosols increase shortwave radiative heating of the lower troposphere and reduce the heating at the surface. These effects have been incorporated as heating of the lower troposphere (up to 700 hPa) and cooling over the co...

Satellite and Gpcp Data Show Co-variability of Aerosols and Precipitation over the Indian Monsoon Region

The time-latitude cross section of climatological daily variations of Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer–Aerosol Index (TOMS-AI) (upper panel) and the GEWEX Global Precipitation Climatology Project (GPCP) 5-day mean rainfall (lower panel) over the Indian subcontinent show that the high aerosol region in Northern India during June–July overlaps with the rain area, indicating that aerosols may inte...

The coupling of the Common Land Model (CLM0) to a regional climate model (RegCM)

We replace the existing land surface parameterization scheme, the Biosphere-Atmosphere Transfer Scheme (BATS), in a regional climate model (RegCM) with the newly developed Common Land Model (CLM0). The main improvements of CLM0 include a detailed 10-layer soil model, the distinction between soil ice and water phases, a linked photosynthesis-stomatal conductance model, a multilayer snow model, a...
